There are PCOs that also put out e-newsletters with case studies, who's new, an update on what the company has been doing, maybe a new venue they've discovered etc. I wonder if our clients feel bombarded by these? Hope not. I guess it depends how often they're sent.

Hi Michelle,

Welcome to the forum,

The tool Box is always free, it will never have a price on it, It has taken a year to design, there probably will be a problem as Brad suggested with the news- but there are pro's and con's with any technology you will get everything from every single company, but there are bound to be problems , I'll be proactive in fixing problems.but all you do is get the headlines which will take a second to scan over in fact here is a link to a video http://www.eventschoice.com.au/directoryhelp/toolbox.htm

In a nutshell instead of emails it is based on RSS Feeds which is faster and will never be blocked by Email filters and updates instantly (well within 2 hours) People who post their news also get statistics on how many people read it and how many click throughs tho their web site- it is also state specific and yes It is free and annonomous to download, the only thing I know is how many downloads and what state- thats it at the moment 1200 people have downloaded it- mostly from NSW which is where I live some internationals, it is based on a google application and was made using their strict guidliness, there are other features- all free including an events twitter reader which also has the airlines, a room layout maker, todo list and many many other tools, it currently has a podcast player built in, but as Yet I have to find experts with podcasts to fill it, so you'll be able to listen to experts talk about different topics etc and even possibly If am allowed to record seminars or MEA Conference topics I can include these as a podcast to listen to. There is alo a community chat, so you can chat with anyone else who has downloaded the toolbox which would work great after listening to the podcast you could instantly chat about it and other tools include free web based image editor, screen shot grabber, eco calculator and to be honest so much more, this has been a year in design and when it was designed the thought was- not how much money can we make from this but what do customers want and how can we make this a better user experience which allowed us to do things that current media companies are not doing.

The current system for news is you send off a Press release and wait (which is not good if it is latest news) and if it doesn't interest the media companies you never hear about it, and there is no place to hear about it. You can also pay for news which means only large companies are heard from. One idea I had for the news site was that it was a communal newsletter via rss feeds, so that you didn't have to get 100 different emails- it was all in one place- I think I'll look into this further

you'l miss out on news you want despite the fact that it may be of benefit to you, because the media aims at the masses, not individuals, with my system you can choose to get into the nity gritty so if your interested in NSW Entertainment news- you can access it with the click of a button, or QLD Site Inspections, or WA Venue News etc, you ca completly bypassAll of SA News if you wish or anything to do with Venues. it is your choice (which is where the web site name comes from)

Now I have offered Micenet the ability to add their feeds at no cost to them- all they have to do is say yes and I'll do all the work and instantly those 1200 people who have downloaded the program will have instant access to the micenet news.

Imagine a system by which you post a news, discount or invitation online, and within 2
hours it has been sent to all our subscribers.- Automatically- nothing else to do and for
free

Now imagine that your news and Discounts have their own statistics, so you can see how
many people have read your news and how many have clicked through to your web site.

Now wrap your mind around the fact that this news cannot be blocked by email filtersbecause
it is not sent via email, it is not restricted by anti spam words, and you can
include video in your news.

Hi, I'm new to this blog and hope to find some interesting topics for discussion. This current topic about being bombarded with e-newsletters caught my eye. I'm not sure who the TOOL is and I don't want to be SOLD anything. bfoster, I received your newsletter today and I must say congratulations are in order. Interesting stories and the fact you can 'click for more' is great if you choose to read more. I must say I do receive the SPICE newsletter but I don't find it very relevent to the conference & events industry so not really sure who it actually targets. Can't say I've ever seen a newsletter from CIM. I have received the odd newsletter from CEI out of Asia and have found that quite informative - a quick read with plenty of opportunity to click through. I also subscribe to WOTnews (put out by the wotif people) and abide by their filter process which means I get to choose what I want to read and they send me the relevent info. I get to filter out the garbage. I think the TOOL was referring to this in a very long-winded way. My staff and I are hungry for more information and more regularly and I wouldn't mind seeing the odd press release or two from you (provided you include your 'take' on them otherwise they become as boring for us to read as they are for you to receive). I am not privy to press releases by any other means - we rely on your newsletter and magazine to keep us in the loop and up to date. Personally, I'd like to receive your newsletter more often! Just on another note - I love Matt Crouch's page in your magazine. I think I almost have every article he's written. When is he going to write a book for us? Look forward to receiving your next newsletter or magazine; which ever comes first.

The core problems with email is they don't always get through

for example the term magician and photographer are spam words and they get picked up and sometimes do not get delivered even if the sender is a reliable email source, and there are many other words that do not get through which relate to the events industry, then you have different email systems that recevie your emails such as outlook, the emails appear differently in different programs

Then theirs the HTML v's Text.

Also there doesn't seem to be any stories about the smaller companies, and the toolbox which is essentially over 250 RSS Feed readers allows you to get the headlines without needing to read the entire news article and it will not clog up your inbox- Rss feed readers will replace email newsletters in the future. it is faster and there is no chance of the message not getting through

And it is not just news, It is invites and discounts and I am sure that all discounts have their place as apposed to Novotel has this doscount, novotel has that one- it all seems to be big venues only, where are the entertainment or service discounts? you never see them, but there there- there just isn't anyplace to advertise them

Bfoster- this tool box will help you too, instead of as you say sifting through so many emails- with the click of a button, you can see all the headlines and if something captures your eye you can contact them for more info for your own magazine
so yes there will be alot of news being free, but you only get the headlines and if it interests you you click to read more just like in an email.

Also do you send different emails to different states? So there is NSW news and QLD news or is it just all jumbled into 1 email

don't Knock it until you try it, It was designed for that reason reducing the amount of emails you get, and then after that was created I found other benefits to the toolbox which is powered by google no less, and created from one of their apps

I have been asked to present a session at the MEA conference in Melbourne in April on traditional v online media. Following this I may post what I say at the conference right here. Regards!

As yours is one of the newsletters I do read, I am interested in reading an outline of your presentation at MEA so please do post it here afterwards. (I will be missing the conference this year.)

Thank goodness most people now follow the Unsubscribe Link guidelines, though I do recieve a couple without any such thing.

Great topic for discussion SYDPCO! Unlike FREE Event Organisers Tool Box appears to be, I am no expert in online e-newsletters, marketing, etc. However, I know that I too am inundated with e-newsletters on a daily basis. This is fine because I believe that as an editor it is my job to sift through what I receive and present them to our readers - industry members - if I believe they will be of relevance. We do this through our magazines and through our e-newsletter. We just adopted a new e-newsletter system, and hence the slight change of tack with the latest one where we did say it was a "press release free zone". This, however, won't always be the case because obviously we receive important stories that are sent to us in press release form. Having said that, like all business operators, we work in a competitive environment, and therefore aim to differentiate ourselves from our competitors. As you say, with the number of e-newsletters and press releases that we receive and that you probably also receive, we do not wish to repeat stories. Where we can we offer something fresh that you maybe haven't seen before we do so.

I have been asked to present a session at the MEA conference in Melbourne in April on traditional v online media. Much of what I talk about are along the lines of some of the points that you raise, and have lead to our reasons for doing what we do now online and in hard copy. Following this I may post what I say at the conference right here. Regards!

I have a new system that will deliver the news without a single email being sent and you can receive it annonomously and free

You would get All the latest News, Discounts and Invitations without receiving a single email, without signing up for anything and it will be updated every 2 hours so you can be on top of all the news if you want it, plus it will be State specific so if your only interested in what is happening in NSW you can quickly get NSW Only.

Sounds good right?

It gets better
All news/discounts will have their own set of statistics so if you post news you can see how many people have read it or clicked through to your web site
Readers will also be able to comment on news items and rate them out of 5

Want more?
Actually it's free to post news, discounts or invites to your showcases.

This way- no more crappy email newsletters, it is faster, direct and latest news

If your interested, I really don't benefit from this program, I get no money, no database no emails if your interested PM me it's free to download and I have no idea who you are when you do download it.

I have also just sent an email to Mice.net to ask if I can include their RSS feeds in it- so you get their news instantly as well, I already have spice news, CIM doesn't seem to have any RSS feeds so I don't know what is going on there.

I am also trying to get the famil club to use a program I built so all their site inspections and famils will use this system

1 program updated every 2 hours with all the latest news, discounts & Invites wih no emails, no fuss no bother you click once to get the headlines and click again to read an article

How many irrelevant industry e-newsletters must we endure? Has anyone out there found a decent e-newsletter from anyone that is doing it right and jam-packing it with relevant newsy information (ie. NEWS-letter with the emphasis being on NEWS)? Brad, I received your e-newsletter recently which included a couple of stories I hadn't seen anywhere else - good stuff! I wanted to read more of the first story. And what do you mean 'press release free zone' as noted on the top of your newsletter? Does this mean we will never see any updates that you get via press releases in your e-newsletter that our industry colleagues prepare and send you?
